Waiting For Your New Air Conditioner? 3 Ways To Keep Cool While You Wait

Eugene Vargas

It can be difficult to stay cool in the middle of summer, especially when your air conditioner needs replacing. Once you order a replacement unit, it can take days or even weeks to have it installed. In the mean time, you're going to need to find creative ways to stay cool inside your home. Here are just a couple of ideas you can use to cool things down.

Make An Emergency Air Conditioner For Your Room

While you're waiting for your new air conditioner to be installed, you can make your own emergency air conditioner using a few household products.

Supplies You'll Need

  • 20 litre bucket for each air conditioner you're going to make
  • Electric drill
  • Measuring tape
  • Permanent marker
  • One household fan for each bucket
  • 2 kg of ice for each bucket

Directions

Using your measuring tape, measure about 8 cm up from the bottom of the bucket.

  1. Mark the spot with your permanent marker.
  2. Using your electric drill, make numerous holes in your bucket above the marked line.
  3. Pour your ice into the bottom of the bucket.
  4. Place your fan over the opening of the bucket with the front of the fan facing down into the bucket.
  5. Turn the fan on to high.
  6. The air from the fan will blow into the bucket and force cold air through the holes that you drilled.

Cool Down The Breeze

If you have a nice warm breeze blowing outside, you can utilise that breeze to cool down your home.

Directions

  1. Place several top sheets in a sink filled with cold water.
  2. Wring the sheets out to remove excess water.
  3. Open up your doors.
  4. Hang the wet sheets in your doorways.
  5. The outside air that blows through the sheets will be cooled down by the water.

Chill The Sheets

Bedtime can be uncomfortable when your air conditioner isn't working properly. Research shows that sleeping in a cool room can give you a more restful night sleep. Cool yourself down by chilling your sheets. All you have to do is place your pillow case and top sheet in the freezer about an hour before bedtime. Remove your sheets from the freezer when it's time for bed. The cool sheets will help you get to sleep.

You don't have to be miserable while you wait for your new air conditioner to be installed, like with Coles Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Pty Ltd. Use these simple methods to cool yourself down while you wait.
